Nigeria, Rwanda Women’s Cricket Teams Set for Top-of-Table Clash

Nigeria and Rwanda’s women’s national cricket teams will face off Tuesday at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval in a potential top-of-the-table showdown in the 2026 Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s Invitational, also known as the Patricia Kambarami Cup, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Rwanda leads the points table with six points from three wins, while Nigeria has claimed victories in both of its matches so far.

New Female Yellow Greens coach Theophilus Ibodeme said he is keeping his strategy under wraps.

“Our tactical secrets will unfold as we approach every game,” Ibodeme told PUNCH Sports Extra. “It’s game plan and we switch accordingly. Our plan has been working out. In the last game, our intention was to play out all the overs and put at least 150 runs on the board and defend it.”

Tuesday’s meeting will be the 27th between the two sides since 2019. Rwanda has won 13 of the previous encounters, Nigeria 12, and one match ended in a tie. Nigeria last defeated Rwanda in the NCF Women’s T20I in 2023, winning by nine runs in Lagos.

After losing the title to Tanzania in 2024, Nigeria is aiming to reclaim it. The Female Yellow Greens opened their 2026 campaign with an eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe U-19 last Friday, followed by a 136-run victory over Ghana on Sunday.

Debutants Henrietta Mbam and Favour Effiong each took three wickets against Ghana, impressing coach Ibodeme.

“They are debutants but in camp, they proved themselves. They earned their positions, and that speaks for itself when they had the chance to play,” Ibodeme said.

Later Tuesday, tournament debutants Zimbabwe U-19 and South Africa U-19 will meet. South Africa has one win in the tournament, while Zimbabwe is seeking its first victory.
