Viola Davis premiered her latest action thriller, G20, in Los Angeles on Thursday, calling it “a real hero story.”
Davis, who stars as the President of the United States in the Amazon film, said the story resonated with her because it portrays a leader who is also navigating motherhood. “Here is this woman who is also a mother to a teenage daughter who’s rebelling. And I thought that was sort of a perfect narrative for a reluctant hero,” she said.
Directed by Patricia Riggen, G20 aligns with Davis’ mission to work with diverse creatives. Since founding JuVee Productions with her husband, Julius Tennon, Davis has prioritized collaborating with underrepresented artists.
“It’s part of our mandate at JuVee Productions—to work with people, artists, great artists who usually are relegated to the periphery,” Davis said. “They have great ability and great stories to be told.”
G20 will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting April 10.
