U.S. Embassy Warns of Possible Terrorist Threat to American Facilities in Nigeria

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has warned American citizens of a possible terrorist threat targeting U.S. government facilities and affiliated schools in the country, according to a security alert issued late Monday.

In the advisory, the embassy urged U.S. citizens to exercise increased caution when visiting the embassy in the capital, Abuja, as well as the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos and schools linked to the United States.

The warning comes amid heightened security concerns following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran.

Embassy officials said American facilities in Nigeria have been on heightened alert since the strikes. While the embassy did not provide specific details about the nature of the threat, it advised U.S. citizens to remain vigilant, limit unnecessary visits to diplomatic facilities, and stay alert to their surroundings.

Nigerian authorities have also stepped up security measures in Abuja in recent days after reports of possible pro-Iranian protests. In northern Nigeria, where there is a sizeable Shi’ite Muslim minority influenced by Iran, thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets in recent days to express support for Iran.

The embassy said it continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary.
