SINNERS’ Makes History as the Most Nominated Film Of All Time at the Oscars with 16 nominations

The announced on Thursday that Sinners, a vampire epic directed by , has made history as the most nominated film ever at the Oscars, earning 16 nominations for the 98th Academy Awards.

The film surpassed the long-standing record of 14 nominations shared by (1950), (1997) and (2016).

Sinners secured nominations across major and technical categories, including best picture and best director for Coogler, marking his first nomination in the category. Lead actor received his first-ever Oscar nomination for best actor, while the film also earned acting nods for as best supporting actor and as best supporting actress.

Coogler was additionally nominated for best original screenplay. The film picked up a nomination for achievement in casting, a new category introduced this year, and dominated the craft fields with nominations for cinematography, film editing, production design, costume design, sound, visual effects, makeup and hairstyling, original score and original song for “I Lied To You.”

In the broader awards race, emerged as another major contender with 13 nominations.

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with returning as host.

Among studios, led the field with a total of 30 nominations, driven largely by the success of Sinners and One Battle After Another.
