Morocco’s national airline, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), expects to start receiving new aircraft from its major fleet expansion program in 2028, CEO Abdelhamid Addou announced on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Arab Air Carriers’ Organization General Assembly in Rabat, Addou said the airline’s ongoing tender, launched in April 2024, covers the purchase of up to 200 aircraft by 2037. Offers from major manufacturers including Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer are currently being evaluated.
“The tender is being finalised,” Addou told reporters, noting that about 25% of the planes will be wide-body jets, while the rest will be narrow-body aircraft. He did not disclose the value of the deal.
RAM expects to receive around 15 new planes each year starting in 2028. Until then, the airline plans to expand its fleet by leasing up to 13 aircraft annually.
The expansion is part of the company’s long-term strategy to strengthen its role as a regional hub carrier, linking Africa with Europe and the Americas through its base in Casablanca.
In a related development, Morocco’s airports authority (ONDA) has launched a tender for a new airport terminal, which will increase passenger capacity to 35 million by 2029, up from the current 10.5 million.
