Nissi Ogulu spoke at the Forbes Woman Africa Leading Women Summit 2025, where she addressed an audience of leaders, innovators, and professionals. She was recognized with the ‘Youth Icon Award’ for her contributions across music, visual arts, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
In her speech, she discussed the role of creativity, resilience, and innovation in shaping Africa’s future. She emphasized the importance of women in leadership, sustainable technology, and the need for African creatives to take control of their narratives.
Ogulu highlighted her work with Kemet Automotive, the electric vehicle company she co-founded, and spoke about the need for sustainable innovation, infrastructure investment, and policies that support African entrepreneurs. Reflecting on her experience as an engineer who contributed to the 2023 Range Rover model, she encouraged young women to enter industries where they are underrepresented.
“We are not waiting for a seat at the table anymore; we are building our own tables,” she said, receiving applause from the audience.
She also spoke about the connection between creativity and innovation, explaining how art, music, and engineering contribute to progress. She encouraged young women to pursue diverse careers and challenge traditional expectations.
