Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania Finalize Plans to Host CHAN 2025

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are preparing to host the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set for August. The three countries are expected to finalize venue selections and logistics for the tournament’s opening, closing, and key matches—including the playoffs for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place—by next week.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is leading efforts to ensure everything is ready. During a recent virtual meeting chaired by CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba, Kenya’s Sports Cabinet Secretary, Salim Mvurya, confirmed the country’s readiness.

“We’ve already paid the hosting rights and our venues meet the required standards,” said Mvurya. “Our event planning is solid, and we’ve formed multi-agency teams to meet CAF’s expectations.”

His counterparts from Uganda and Tanzania, Peter Ogwang and Hamisi Mwinjuma, echoed his confidence. They emphasized their countries’ commitment to working together to deliver a smooth and successful tournament.

The three nations also discussed how to make travel easier for players, fans, and officials. One proposal is the “PAMOJA Visa”—a special multiple-entry visa to allow easier movement across borders. A joint security plan is also being considered.

CAF’s Secretary General stressed the importance of confirming venues quickly so that preparations on the ground can begin. He praised the unity of the host nations and promised CAF’s full support.

CHAN 2025 marks a historic moment for East Africa, showing the power of regional cooperation and setting the stage for a memorable football event that could inspire future continental partnerships.
