John Cena made history at WrestleMania, capturing his 17th World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Championship and becoming the most decorated wrestler in the company’s history.
Cena’s victory over Cody Rhodes came after a surprise interference from rapper Travis Scott, pushing him past Ric Flair’s long-held record of 16 world title reigns.
The win marks what is expected to be Cena’s final WrestleMania appearance, following his announcement that he plans to retire at the end of 2025. However, in professional wrestling, retirements are rarely set in stone.
The blockbuster event was filled with title changes, dramatic twists and surprises, but none were more significant than the final match of the weekend, which closed out the show with a historic milestone.
This year’s WrestleMania also marked a new era for WWE as the first to stream live on Netflix under a 10-year, $5 billion agreement with the platform. The deal includes WWE’s weekly programming and monthly premium events, although availability varies by region.
Netflix’s broadcast of the event ran largely without issue, building on its success since it began streaming WWE content in January. The company said the debut live show garnered nearly five million views.
Ahead of WrestleMania, WWE also announced the acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, one of Mexico’s premier wrestling promotions, further expanding its global reach.
Still, for fans, the main focus remains on the in-ring action and Cena’s triumph will be remembered as one of the most iconic moments in WrestleMania history.
