Grammys 2026: Tyla wins Best African Music Performance

South African singer Tyla and U.S.-born artist Shaboozey, whose parents are Nigerian, were among the early winners Sunday at the Grammy Awards, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Tyla won best African music performance for “Push 2 Start,” adding to her recent international rise. The category, introduced to spotlight contemporary African music on the recording industry’s biggest stage, also included nominees Burna Boy, Davido featuring Omah Lay, Eddy Kenzo with Mehran Matin, and Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid.

Reacting to her win after the awards ceremony in Los Angeles, she exclaimed: “This is insane, this is so insane! I’m just so lucky to be here and I’m so proud to be African. I’m excited to see more of us over here.”

Shaboozey claimed best country solo performance, beating nominees Tyler Childers, Chris Stapleton, Zach Top, and Lainey Wilson. His win underscores country music’s growing diversity and its reach beyond traditional boundaries.
