Eto’o Wins Appeal, Cleared to Run for CAF Executive Committee

Football icon Samuel Eto’o has won his appeal against a ban that prevented him from running for a seat on the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) executive committee.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of the 43-year-old former striker, who has served as president of the Cameroon Football Federation since 2021. Eto’o, a four-time African Player of the Year, enjoyed a decorated playing career with clubs including Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea.

His leadership has been marred by controversy. In September, FIFA handed him a six-month ban for misconduct, and last year, CAF fined him $200,000 for breaching ethics rules by promoting a betting company though his legal team successfully overturned the fine in February.

With the CAF General Assembly set to review candidates on March 12, Eto’o now has another opportunity to influence the future of African football.
