Representatives of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Alliance Fleuve Congo/March 23rd Movement (AFC/M23) have jointly announced their renewed commitment to ending hostilities and advancing peace efforts, following peace talks facilitated by the State of Qatar.
In a joint declaration, both parties agreed to work towards a truce that supports the implementation of a lasting ceasefire. They reaffirmed their intention to immediately cease all hostilities, reject hate speech and intimidation, and encourage local communities to support the peace process.
The agreement aims to open the door for constructive dialogue that addresses the root causes of the crisis in eastern Congo. Both sides pledged to respect these commitments throughout the negotiation period.
The declaration also called on Congolese citizens, religious leaders, and the media to help spread the message of peace and hope.
The signatories expressed appreciation to Qatar for its role in facilitating the talks and promoting mutual understanding between the conflicting sides.
The announcement was signed in Goma on April 23, 2025, by Lawrence Kanyuka, Political and Diplomatic Communication Lead for the AFC.
